What ordinary PDF editors can't do
A scan is a picture of a page. Most tools either let you draw over it, or turn the whole page into plain typed text. PaperMend edits the picture itself.

Retype text in the print's own style
Double-click a word and type. PaperMend works out the typeface, size, weight and colour of the print and sets your new text to match. Lines re-flow if you type more.

Cover up, add or clean up
Draw a box and fill it with matching paper to hide something, or type into it to add text where there was none. Paint out specks, smudges and punch holes with the clean-up brush.

Move or remove signatures and stamps
Signatures, stamps and logos are picked out as objects. Drag them somewhere else, delete them, or copy one to another page. The paper behind is repaired, not painted white.
Lift a stamp, and get back the words it covered
A stamp pressed over the text takes the letters it touched with it when you remove it. PaperMend's AI works out what they said, from the letters still showing and the sentence round them, and puts the line back in the page's own print.
- You check every line it puts back. Nothing goes into your download until you accept it.
- Numbers are never guessed. If the missing part holds a figure, the line is left for you to type.
- It uses one AI credit for the whole document, however many stamps you remove.

What happens to your documents
- Stored on our own server in the EU, encrypted in transit, and deleted automatically 7 days after upload. Delete them sooner with one click.
- Never used for anything except editing them for you. Nobody reads them.
- AI is optional. When it's on, each page's image and text are sent to Anthropic's Claude to correct misread words and find handwriting, and to put back the words under a stamp you remove. Numbers, dates and amounts are never changed or guessed by it.

- Fixing a typo in a letter you've already printed and signed. Updating the prices on a scanned price list. Filling in a paper form neatly. Removing a "DRAFT" stamp from your own final copy.

Questions people ask
Will anyone be able to tell the page was edited?
PaperMend sets your new text in the size, weight and colour of the print around it, and repairs the paper texture behind anything you remove. On a typical office scan the result is hard to spot. Very low-quality scans, unusual typefaces or heavy handwriting show more, so preview before you download.
Can it bring back words that were under a stamp?
Yes, with AI on: tick Also fix reading errors and find handwriting with AI when you upload. Then remove a stamp that was over some text, and PaperMend shows the words it most probably covered, for you to accept, edit or reject. It uses one AI credit for the whole document. Numbers are never guessed: a line whose missing part holds a figure is left for you to type.
Which fonts can it match?
It has 86 fonts and works out which one the page is printed in. Calibri, Cambria and Georgia are matched with free fonts that have exactly the same letter widths, so retyped lines keep their length. The download uses the same fonts you see on screen. See how to match the font.
Does it work on handwriting?
It reads printed text. Handwritten notes and signatures are treated as marks: you can move, copy or remove them, but not retype them.
What kinds of file can I upload?
PDF, JPG, PNG and HEIC (the format an iPhone saves photos in), up to 20 pages at a time. Photos of a page taken with a phone work: the page is found in the photo and straightened. Lay it flat on a darker surface, in good light, with all four corners in the shot.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in the browser on a Mac, PC, iPad or tablet. A screen larger than a phone's makes editing easier.
Is there a password?
No. You sign in with a link we email you. It works once and expires after 15 minutes.
How do I cancel?
From inside the app: More, then Your subscription, then Cancel. Pro carries on to the end of the period you've paid for. See refunds and cancellation.
