PaperMend

Terms of service

Last updated 12 October 2026

These terms apply when you use PaperMend, at papermend.net. PaperMend is provided by Steve Austen, trading as Violet Pixels, a sole trader based at Unit 17 Joseph Wilson Industrial Estate, Whitstable, Kent CT5 3PS, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using PaperMend you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. What PaperMend does

PaperMend lets you upload a scanned document or a picture of a page, change the text on it, add or cover text, move or remove marks such as signatures and stamps, and download the result as a PDF. It reads the text on the page with optical character recognition (OCR), and can optionally use an AI service to correct reading mistakes. OCR and AI are not perfect: always check the result before you rely on it.

2. Your account

You sign in with a link sent to your email address. Anyone with access to your email can sign in as you, so keep your email account secure. You must be at least 18 to buy a subscription. You are responsible for what is done through your account.

3. Acceptable use

PaperMend is a tool for correcting, updating and tidying documents you are entitled to change, such as fixing a typo in your own letter, updating a price on your own price list, or removing a stamp from a scan you are re-using legitimately. You must not use PaperMend:

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, and we will cooperate with lawful requests from the authorities. You alone are responsible for how you use documents you make with PaperMend.

4. Plans, payment and changes

The free plan, PaperMend Pro and page packs are described on the pricing page. Pro is a subscription that renews automatically, monthly or yearly, until you cancel. A page pack is paid for once; its pages last 12 months from the day you buy it, are used before the free plan's pages, and a document uploaded with them downloads without a watermark. An opening offer, when there is one, applies to subscriptions started before the end shown on the pricing page, for the period it states; the normal price applies after that. Payments are taken by Stripe, which acts as the seller of record for the transaction and is responsible for collecting any VAT or sales tax; Stripe's terms apply to the payment itself. Cancellation and refunds are described on the refunds and cancellation page, which forms part of these terms.

We may change prices or allowances. If we change the price of Pro, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before it affects you, and you can cancel before it does. We may improve or change features at any time; we will not remove the core ability to edit and download documents from a paid plan during a period you have paid for.

5. Your documents

Documents you upload remain yours. You give us permission to store and process them only as needed to provide the service to you. Uploaded documents and everything derived from them are deleted automatically 7 days after upload, and you can delete them sooner from the start screen. We do not look at your documents unless you ask us to for support, or we are required to by law. How we handle your data is set out in the privacy policy.

6. Availability

We aim to keep PaperMend available at all times but cannot promise it. It may be unavailable for maintenance, because of problems with our suppliers, or for reasons outside our control. Where a significant outage affects a period you have paid for, see the refunds page.

7. What we are responsible for

We provide PaperMend with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, our total liability to you in connection with PaperMend is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for losses that were not foreseeable when you signed up, for business losses such as lost profit or lost business, or for the consequences of relying on an edited document without checking it. If you are using PaperMend for business purposes, we exclude all implied warranties to the extent the law allows.

8. Ending these terms

You can stop using PaperMend and delete your documents at any time. We may close an account for breach of these terms, or close the service altogether on at least 30 days' notice, refunding any unused part of a paid period if we do.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For changes that matter to you, we will email the address on your account at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use PaperMend after that date means you accept the new terms.

10. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you also benefit from the mandatory consumer protection law of the place where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts. If you have a complaint, please email us first at hello@violetpixels.co.uk; most problems can be sorted out quickly.
